• His parents were born in South Carolina according to the the 1910 Census. 

• Fannie Lillian Williams was born 1864. She died April 1, 1913. 

• Richard and Fannie were married January 7, 1880 in Lee County, AL.  They lived in the Graham Store and Pierce Chapel communities in Lee County, AL

     2. Winnie Giles - Miller - Born February 1886 - Died February 19, 1963. Husband Shuman Miller

     4. Alexander Giles - born1892, Died March 9 1959

     5. Cora Giles Thomas - Born 1894, Died July 1984

     6. Arresia (Resie Giles) Cunningham, Born 1896, Death Unknown

     7. Rebecca Giles- Born 1898, Death Unknown

Historical Observations

• Several Census sites listed Mulatto as the race for Richard Sr., Richard Jr., Cleveland, Oscar, and William. 

• For the 1900 Census, the family name changed from Giles to Jiles. In the 1920 census, the name went back to Giles, but in the 1930 census it changed back to Jiles and in the 1940 census, it changed back to Giles.
